Training to be a superhero is so dangerous that I'm more likely to graduate to a coffin than a cape!
But I don't care, because being a superhero is all I've wanted since the day the day alien saucers came out of space and started attacking the Earth. They tore up mountains and cities with ease, killing millions of innocent people. The only thing that stood between Earth and Armageddon was small teams of superheroes who rose up to save the day.
But we are losing the war for Earth, and even the superheroes are dying in their dozens.
And I might be next.
Trainee Superhero Book One eBook C H Aalberry
The basic premise is simple. The Earth is under attack by alien flying saucers, and Earth's only hope is a rag-tag assortment of "superheroes" in suits made from reverse engineered alien technology which only works on an intuitive basis. Our main character wants to become a Superhero, but manages to instead get shanghaied onto a convict suicide squad. He's not the most talented. He's not the strongest. He's not even all that great with the alien technology, but he's living the dream.Well, other than the brutal beatings, the shock collar, and his fellow superheroes trying to kill him, all because he saved the wrong girl...

Trainee Superhero Book One eBook C H Aalberry Reviews
Very fun, action packed start to this series. I've never read a book quite like this, and I'll have to say I really enjoyed it. To see aliens mixed with superheros is a duo I'd never imagine together, but the author makes it works in a way I never thought it could. It's a fight to save the world and a young superhero trainee wants to help, but doesn't think he'll be able to survive. In a way, it kind of reminds me of a similar genre to "Enders Game" (which is one of my favorite books) in the sense that a young protagonist has the fate of the world in his hands, yet doesn't know it. Really great read and look forward to seeing what's to come.
Good series. Fast paced, action filled. But a short book. I don’t care for how backstories are inserted in book.
A different take on supers and growing up. The main character is pretty simple too. He just wants to help save the world. Things start out rough for him but he takes it in stride!!!
I read the series so far and though this isn't Shakespeare, it is a fun short read. The Hero of the story is becoming more accustomed to real Superhero life rather than his original visions of grandeur. Still a bit of an awkward bumbling teen but, he makes strides toward adulthood with every mission. I hope somewhere in the series the author gives this young man a higher purpose and calling that challenges his abilities and the power he acquired from "Simon Smith."
The book develops the character very well, you can watch the journey of a super hero from he was a trainee to something else, it is very well paced, this book is very different you can read the thoughts of the protangonist and it is really amazing and exciting to read it at the start of every chapter! Very well written!
The MC isn't really fleshed out yet, the best friend and love interest barely gets any page count so far, the trainees' super names are so terrible as to be parodies, and the "book" ends just as things start coming together... But for all that, a fun read I wouldn't mind continuing in a longer work. Give it a shot.
I downloaded Book One for free, decided to pick up the rest, as well, and am so happy I did! It's a different spin on superheroes and their powers, but it really works. I especially like how well the author paints each character as individuals with very different personalities and abilities, not simply two dimensional clones of stereotypes. The previews at the end of the next book are wonderful hooks foreshadowing what is to come. I'm really looking forward to more in this series. When can we expect the next one?
